I always say I love my husband dearly, but if I had it to over again, I would interview more carefully on the carpentry questions.

My wonderful husband of 10 years has a different set of skills that it took me a while to appreciate as well. No, he cannot build me a bookcase. Nor can he download the latest software to simplify my life. As a matter of fact, I had to help him learn how to use HIS laptop. He will say that we can hire people to do these things. He is a complete music fan, yet still buys CDs instead of using an Ipod. At times I think he is the only person keeping the record industry in business!

What he can do, however, is keep an incredibly rich queue of great movies for us to watch on Netflix (from the latest indy faves to archival foreign masterpieces). He has an encyclopedic knowledge of the NY Review of Books and can quote poetry he learned way back in college. Oh, and he is often quite funny.

So while I sometimes pine for the man wearing a flannel shirt and scuffed boots with a lathe in his hands, I am quite happy with my somewhat clumsy intellectual husband who will sit and watch a great movie with me while we sip wine with the most eye-catching label (since neither of us is an enologist!)
