Marriage Can Wreak Havoc on the Waistline
ByYou’ve heard of the freshman ten (as in gaining ten pounds upon college admission)? Well, have you heard about the marriage twenty? Within 6 months of getting married I gained 10 pounds. A few years later and another ten or so settled in.
When I was single I would regularly forget to eat dinner. No kidding. And, the weekends were no different. I could easily find myself at 2 p.m. remembering I hadn’t eaten anything yet. After all, there was shopping to do and gym equipment to visit. Who had time to eat?
So, while I used to just eat when I was hungry (and didn’t when I wasn’t), now I have regularly scheduled feedings to adhere to. I wasn’t trying to play the traditional wife-making-dinner-every-night role, but I quickly learned it comes with some real advantages. Like actual conversation occurs at the dinner table.
Sitting down to dinner together ensures the news is off and Husband is away from the computer. So, in addition to wanting Husband to be healthy and well fed, I found the odds of dialogue is greatly increased when we are sitting across from one another holding cutlery.
And, the better the dinner, the longer we’re at the table. (Leftovers just beg for sitting on the couch in front of the news. Grilled salmon on a bed of roasted vegetables is harder to balance on one’s lap.)
Sometimes dinner time is the only undivided attention I get. So, I’m not giving it up.
Of course, now my pants don’t always fit, but at least I get my questions answered. In fact, I really must jet. I have to get to the store to shop for dinner. We have vacation plans to discuss.

I’ve heard it said that the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach. What you are saying makes me wonder if the way to a woman’s stomach is through her heart. An intriguing thought, wouldn’t you say, LBB?

Intriguing, indeed….I think a way to any part of a woman is through her heart. If only more men started there. Sigh.
