Wonderful! I could not agree with you more about the pole dancing. Aside from being all of the things you mentioned: empowering, spicing up your love life, etc. The bottom line is that it’s FUN! And I agree that there is this message to older women to put their sexuality away – particularly if you are a mother. We really condemn women for putting any piece of their sexuality on display. It is my personal hope that as more and more women explore their erotic side through dance and movement, this attitude will shift and the erotic will come to be something that is celebrated, honored and even passed own from mother to daughter.
I have been pole dancing off and on for almost three years and I can’t ever imagine giving it up. It has opened me up in many different ways!

I cannot applaud both this beautifully written post and its subject ENOUGH! The idea that a woman–no matter her age or shape or income or background or culture, etc. etc. etc.–should hide or suppress her sensual, playful side is an idea I have never been able to wrap my brain around. These dances breed connection to one’s own body confidence and inner empowerment and that IS some very fun and sexy stuff. BRAVO, LBB! And a round of hearty applause for LBB’s supportive, happy hubby, too.

Here, here, LBB! Perhaps the current misconceptions surrounding pole dancing will go the same way as those surrounding other ‘taboo’ dance forms such as tango, belly dancing, and….gasp….a man waltzing without a handkerchief covering his hand!
